Wow!
Its been an amazing year for me and Team RPC. As the year ends, I take some time to reflect on who I am, what I am doing, where I am, and where I want to go. What excites me, what are my passions, what makes me happy. I think it is good to know where you’ve been, where you are and dream about who you want to be. Then when you discover your dream, take action every day to get you to where you want to be. Sometimes life derails you, I know that from many experiences, however if you are truly passionate about what you’re doing you find the strength, determination and perseverance to get you through, get up and make it through one more day.
Here is my story, I hope it will inspire you in some way.
Who would have thought 33 years ago, when I started teaching group fitness classes out of my parents basement “working out” would turn into a career I am still passionate about. My background is in business, I wanted to be a CPA and go into finance. After my son was born, it was my first time ever working out – I was never athletically inclined or encouraged – in my family, boys were the athletes – girls were suppose to cook and clean. I became creative with reasons to be excused from PE classes in high school and always carried a few extra pounds – my mom always told me I was “big boned” -So entering the fitness center at the college I was attending with about 30 extra pounds was extremely intimidating. I stuck with it and really got into fitness – so much that I changed the direction of my career and became a certified fitness instructor. I moved from the basement to a local park district, then opened an aerobic studio, worked for clubs, went to clients homes to conduct personal training sessions and eventually worked on a consulting project with an associate bringing me to ownership of The LaSalle-Wacker Fitness Center in Chicago. After a ten year run, the time was right to sell, and I took a position with an area chiropractor and increased my expertise in working with post-rehab clients.
After moving to Florida 10 years ago, I worked in a private community, which was a fantastic experience, but wasn’t giving me the creative freedom to expand the golf fitness program I envisioned. Taking a leap of faith, 2 1/2 years ago, RPCoaching LLC was born. My goal was to focus on Golf Fitness Programs for individuals and communities and become the Golf Fitness Goddess of SWFL! My business has evolved from this point. I am still the very involved with golf fitness, however I have added 4 team members and two support staff and we are busy bringing the best fitness and wellness programs to 8 communities in SWFL, as well as working with Healthy Living Caravan promoting fitness and wellness throughout many more communities via health fairs, fitness demonstrations and educational programs. There has been a lot of sweat, hard work and tears growing the company in the past two years and I am confident there will be many more as I continue to grow, however my passion and commitment to assisting people creating healthier lifestyles is strong, – (if I can do it – you can too) – always gives me the incentive to keep taking action to move forward.
My wish for you this holiday season is to take some time for you, get in touch with yourself, appreciate who you are and where you are and accept where you are at this moment. Then ask yourself what is the one thing that you want to focus on this year. What is it that you truly want to do? Be? Have? Once you know what sparks your passion, write down what you need to do to get there. Once you have your list, START – the work won’t happen by itself. Get moving and take action then next December, look at your list and see how far you’ve come.
